Best Bachelor Party Destinations

  1. Budapest

    • Best all around

      • Second best for hot springs

      • Third best for history

      • Second best restaurant in the world (Rumour)

    • There is a reason why Budapest is synonymous with “stag party” in the UK. Getting to Budapest (from the UK) is cheap, lodging and partying in Budapest is cheap, there are tons of cool bars, and there’s plenty to do during the day. There is even more to do during the day than there is at night if your interests are erudite; Budapest is stacked with hot springs, museums, and restaurants.

    • Budapest is a perfect destination for a three-day weekend. It’s a city that you really can’t see in two days alone but definitely can cover given a third. If you’re traveling from outside Europe, then you’ll like want to budget more than three days for your trip. If so, I strongly recommend spending those additional days to see Vienna and/or Bratislava, both of which are a short, cheap train ride away.

    Roatan

    • Best for divers

    • Best food in the Caribbean

    • Roatan has the second largest reef in the world after the Great Barrier Reef. And unlike the Great Barrier Reef, it’s healthy, and only a short flight from Atlanta, Houston, Toronto, or Miami.

    • Not only is Roatan’s water warm and crystal clear, it’s home to sea turtles and nocturnal bioluminescent crustaceans.

    • Roatan is small and not super populous, but divers party and Roatan can definitely be a party destination.

    • Stay in West End, close to all the best food and the best and closest reefs.

    • If your whole crew doesn’t dive, that’s going to detract from Roatan’s candidacy, but the snorkeling is also phenomenal, and there’s always fishing and jungle wildlife stuff.

    Ischia & Naples

    • Third best for hot springs

    • Second best for food

    • Second best for history

    • Best nightlife

    • Best pizza

    • Southern Italy is unlikely to top the list of places that are cheap and convenient to travel to, but you might find that it’s well worth it for the hot springs, history, and food.

    • Ischia’s port gets mobbed every night by a phalanx of Italian girls in gladiator sandals and cowboy boots. You can reassure you’re fiancee that they’re unapproachable without fluent Italian.

    • Campania is cheap, chaotic, and has the best pizza on the planet. That makes for a masculine enough grounds for a bachelor party even if you spend most of it at spa facilities.

    Rome

    • Best for food

    • Best for history

    • Second best pizza

    • Rome is a four-season destination. Spectacular art, singular history, superb food.

    • Rome has plenty of bars and night clubs. Its wine bars are my favorite, but if you’re looking for English speakers, start at Scholar’s.

    Kusatsu & Tokyo

    • Best for hot springs

    • Best bachelorette Asia

    • Honshu is a bougie bachelor party destination if you’re coming from anywhere outside Japan. Your fiancee might insist upon saving it for the honeymoon. But if those aren’t issues, Kusatsu & Tokyo would make for a blast.

    • The Tokyo National Museum is one of the greatest museums in the entire world, and the history, culture, performance and dining opportunities Tokyo has to offer are incomparable.

    • Be sure to dedicate a few hours to visit as many of the mini bars in Golden Gai as possible.

    • There’s a tiny karaoke bar in Roppongi called Trap that I loved. Amour and Glam both look similar and seem to be liked. This is Asian-style karaoke where you’ve got the room to yourself, so if you’re looking to meet people, do that at other bars and then bring the party to a karaoke room.

    • Jetlag and sushi can go hand in hand. The tuna auction requires a ~4 a.m, start, so plan to either do this at the beginning of your trip when you’re totally discombobulated, and/or after staying out all night. If you have the will to make it to a fish market at 4 a.m., this can also get you first in line for seats at some of the best sushi restaurants in Tokyo.
